About Connect

Connect Services ("Connect", "we"), trading as Connect New Zealand, helps customers get local work done. We scope each job, send it to vetted local tradies to quote, and present those quotes to you. Using our sites means you agree to these terms.

Posting a job

Posting a job and getting quotes is free and there's no obligation to accept. Please describe the job honestly and only upload photos you're allowed to share. We may contact you to clarify the scope or arrange a site visit before sending it out.

Quotes and prices

Quotes are prepared by independent tradies against the scope we write. The price shown to you is Connect's price for the job, includes GST and our service fee, and is valid until the date on the quote.

If the work needed turns out to be materially different from the scope (for example hidden damage), the price may need to change. Any change will be agreed with you before extra work goes ahead.

Booking and paying

When you accept a quote you pay a 25% deposit by card through our payment provider, Stripe. Your booking is confirmed once the deposit clears. The remaining 75% is payable to Connect when the job is complete.

If you need to cancel after paying a deposit, contact us as soon as possible. We'll work it through with you and the tradie; any refund depends on what has already been done or ordered, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

The work

The work is carried out by the tradie you choose. Tradies on Connect are independent businesses that we check before they can quote (including the trade licences required for the work, and insurance). If something isn't right with the work, tell us and we'll help get it fixed.

Tradies

Tradie accounts are by invitation after we've vetted your application. You must keep your licence, insurance and contact details current, quote honestly against the scope, and treat customers' information as private.

You quote your own price and that is what you're paid. Tradies are paid by Connect under the payment terms shown in the tradie portal.

Connect Marketplace

Anyone with a verified account can list. The sale or hire is between the buyer and the seller; Connect provides the marketplace and, when you pay through Connect, holds the payment until the buyer has the item (or the hire is over), then pays the seller less Connect's fee. Listing is free. Purchases over $5,000 paid by card carry a 1.5% card fee.

Bids and accepted offers are binding: if you win an auction or the seller accepts your offer, you must pay within 4 days or the sale is cancelled. If something isn't as described, report a problem from your order before confirming you've got it and we'll hold the money while we sort it out.

Keep payments on Connect. Never pay a deposit outside Connect to someone you haven't met.

Liability

We do our best to vet tradies and keep the sites accurate, but we can't guarantee that the sites will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim is limited to the fees we received for the job concerned. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under New Zealand consumer law.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page applies from the date shown above. These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
